About Weaveyourself

Louise Cook –  Saori weaving, the Best Kept Secret!

In my opinion, Saori weaving is the best kept secret in the weaving world. Misao Jo founded this creative weaving style in 1969 and it is continued by her family and multiple countries worldwide. SAORI Global

I was introduced to this method of hand weaving in 2011 and immediately connected to it. It is a free style form of plain hand weaving which is appealing to new weavers due to its simplicity and to long-time weavers due to its sophistication.

After an introductory workshop in New Zealand, I visited and further studied Saori weaving at Saorinomori, the home of Saori in Izumi, Osaka. I achieved success in the tests and during another visit in 2013, I was awarded my certificate as a Saori authorised, global Tutor and distributor for New Zealand.

Saori is a way of life for me, I am influenced by the Misao Jo’s four slogans which represent the core philosophy of Saori.

In Saori weaving practice does not make perfect or imperfect. It is a journey during which we weave our own unique creations. There is no “right or wrong” way, there are no mistakes, just “beauty with lack of intention”. The weaver becomes engaged in creating and designing as they go.

I encourage you to contact me to arrange a SAORI pop-up Studio experience at your place or mine.
